Let’s talk a little about fitness today, shall we? It has been a long while since I have posted about my workouts. After doing a lot of running throughout grad school and my 2 years in Memphis, I have decided to take a break from it for a while. Instead, I have been focusing more on strength training! I never thought I would hear myself say that, ha. One of the major reasons I have started to warm up to the weight room is because of this class I have fallen in love with called Body Pump. It’s a 60 minute, full body workout that incorporates weights. Every set of exercises is timed to a soundtrack and focuses on a different part of the body such as legs, triceps, or abs. Over the course of the couple months of taking the class, I now feel much more confident about using barbells for exercises. Body Pump gave me a great repertoire of exercises that I can now combine on my own as well as the confidence that I have my form correct. (To avoid injury!). Plus, each week I like to challenge myself by going a little heavier on the weight if I can. The following workout was a quick set I put together and did at the gym on Thursday. It took me about 35 minutes to do all three sets and I was definitely sweating by the end!
In case you aren’t sure what some of the exercises are, here are some references. I completed the circuit with about 35 lbs on the bar, but use more if you have been strength training a while. I also included the body weight equivalent in case you want to do this with no equipment at home!
- Deadlifts or Single Leg Body Weight Deadlift
- Bent Over Rows or Push Ups
- Weighted Squats or Air Squats
- Ball Passes/Stability Ball V-Pass or Lying Leg Lifts
- Triceps Kickbacks or Triceps Dips w/ a chair
Feel free to pin the workout and let me know what you think!
